Overview

Alberta Street is the stage for the wildly popular Last Thursday art walk, where the neighborhood transforms into a block party with street performers, live music, and pop-up art installations. History
Alberta Street was originally a streetcar suburb connecting Portland to the city of Albina (annexed in 1891). Through much of the 20th century, it was a working-class corridor serving the surrounding residential neighborhoods. By the 1980s and 1990s, disinvestment had taken its toll, but the low rents attracted artists, musicians, and immigrants who began opening studios, galleries, and restaurants. The Last Thursday art walk started informally in the late 1990s as a small gathering of artists and grew into one of Portland's most beloved cultural events, drawing thousands. Today, Alberta is nationally recognized as one of America's greatest arts districts, a place where public art, independent business, and community converge.
